From 5 - 7 September 2013 Scandinaviansoul.com and Horsens Ny Teater, a modern theatre in Horsen, near Billund in Denmark, present the first "Scandinavian Soul" festival, which brings together more than 120 young musicians from all over Scandinavia.

“I also thought they'd made a mistake when I read the event start time was 24:00,” says vivacious, 5’11” singer Alex from Okapii. We are strolling along the busy streets of Copenhagen together on her way to do a sound check at the venue KB18, in Copenhagen's own meatpacking district.

I’d been looking forward expectedly to Saturday night. 

No, tonight I wouldn’t be out showing my dancing skills (which, by the way, have deserted me years ago) instead I sat with a cup of Coffee resting beside me, a pen and paper poised, and my phone fully charged. Tonight I’d be interviewing the compelling Danish Singer Sahra da Silva whose EP 'Sahra da Silva and the Jagged Soul' has been extremely well received here on Scandinaviansoul.com.



As she answers my call I hear her voice float in my ear and it’s distinct but not as raspy as one might expect. We began by discussing her name, background and influences.

There's an exciting, un-stripped energy that makes listening to Scarlet Pleasure immediately addictive. You can just feel the creativity bursting from each song - we're excited!!

I've been told to look out for this lady and it would appear they were so right. Danish singer (I know, another one!!) Nana Rashid Jensen is also one of the founders of the excellent Chicken Grease Soul Club in Denmark.

This is an excellent live version of her own composition - Why do You Lean On Me. Her debut album is expected late 2013.

This was released 21 Nov 2012 = FRESH artist, with a super voice and a R&B flavour! She also told me she's spending Christmas in my hometown, Croydon, England, so I like her even more now!

Today sees the release of Danish singer Nanna. B debut 12 track album 'Vitaphone' which contains the excellent single 'Sum O' Sometimes'.

Maybe the term ‘classic’ only applies when the world agrees on it, but I'm going to put my neck on the line by saying Sahra da Silva’s new EP 'Sahra da Silva and the Jagged Soul' have created a timeless classic within the newly born genre we call 'Scandinavian Soul.'

When Sahra da Silva first appeared on the 'Denmarks Got Talent' 2010 audition (performing the song 'Soulmate' ), she sang cross-legged and bare-footed on the floor and left the stage to a standing ovation, and since then I've been eagerly awaiting her first release.
